MEMORY IN ACTING - EMOTIONAL MEMORY THAT IS

Many people think that an actor simply learns their lines, goes onto a stage or film set and produces the script word for word.

Well, there's a lot more to it than that.

Actor preparation and training is needed to really bring out the best in a character.

Different techniques are used to produce amazing and unforgettable performances.

In this article I want to explore emotional memory.

I remember being taught by patrick stuart, and he mentioned using this technique to really embody a character, but he called it method feel memory.

So what is emotional memory or "feel memory".

Well I could go into a history lesson, but lets keep things basic ( if you want to delve deeper look for stanislavski on google).
You must study your role and do research to be able to know the characters emotional state through a performance, then you can apply your "feel memory".

Use your own experiences of emotion and apply this to a role, to create something new and exciting that an audience can relate to.

This can really amplify the performance..

so let's have an example:

A character has just lost their pet and you need to convey this to the best of your ability.  so how?  especially if you have never lost or had a pet.

Well, you search through your past and find a time where you experienced some type of loss and the feelings that you felt at the time.  apply this to your character and don't be afraid to experiment.

You have to be a scientist, experimenting with what works and evokes the audiences imagination and make them truly believe in the emotion you are conveying.

Hope your all doing good and well keep moving forward and come
